Pretty exciting here the last week, stoked to see it come together and fortunate to have such awesome friends be a major part of the build.

If you're driving up, I'd like to buy some of those half doors for the Rubicon Express JK if you can deliver them. Let me know!

Very nice work Jason and crew! Not to take away from the chassis/suspension work that Dan did, but I think one of the things that makes this build so cool is that a significant amount of the work was done in a garage by team-mates and the car DRIVER vs. just cutting a check to a high-end shop for a turn-key car.

New tool

An elevated garage/shop project like this takes tools for accuracy. We added a Buck adjust-tru chuck to a rotary table to make set-ups faster.

J had a rotary table, but set-ups take a ton of time. We scored an Ebay chuck, and then made a mounting plate on exactly the same set-up on my mill. It took about 2 hours including band saw time of the 1 1/4" 7075 plate.
All hand rotary mill work. Easily perfect.

Near the bottom of the chuck there are 4 adjusting screws that press against the aluminum flange. Set-up a dial indicator to the mill table, and rotate the part. Adjust the screws to bring the part into the center (.001") Then lock down those top outside allen bolts thru the chuck into the aluminum plate. Inside the center hole in the aluminum plate is a locator plug between the plate and rotary table (not shown) so all is easily re-located if removed.

You can use this to re-drill wheels also. Sometimes dialing in the rim instead of the hub center.

Reeeeeal cool guys have CNC...but we are cutting while they are programming, and CNC may not be the best for SWAG repairs. (Scientific Wild-Ass Guess, or SWAG, is American slang meaning a rough estimate made by an expert in the field, based on experience and intuition) Not build porn but...

“I am nervous about the angle on the divorced transfer case. All of the geometry is set up for the u-joints to cancel any vibrations, but the High Angle Driveline is only 11 inches long and has 13 degrees of angle.” When the buggy hits the dyno, Jason plans to monitor the temperature of the u-joints. “If they get over 230 degrees we are going to have to go back to the drawing board,” he notes. “Heat is the best indicator of whether they will survive or not.”
Can you work with RCV to make a CV to mate the trans and t-case?

I'm not sure that style CV could live at those high RPM's- Although I was told that was the original application of a Series 30 CV in the first place for heavy equipment.

We dyno'd it on Saturday and all seems okay. Working with Jess at High Angle after Ryan Miller told us that we were dumb and could make it a few inches longer if we went with a yoke vs. a flange. I thought the flange would be trick enabling you to easily remove the shaft from the t-case but it takes up a lot of room. A yoke would gain us almost 2" more- and you could still remove it easily by just pulling one U-bolt and loosing the other.

I built some trick driveline loops with some of the chromoly removable tube clamps from Trail Gear that allow the shaft to come out quickly...hopefully they will work with a 2" longer shaft because I made them super tight to prevent a broken u-joint from swinging very far.

Thanks for sharing your build Jason, seriously. So many are done in secret now it sucks for those of us who like to follow.

Nice to see you using an a-arm design that isn't flat to help with ground clearance. I have been waiting for somebody to do something to help with ground clearance. They've been doing it in the ATV industry on XC arms for years.
